Baltic Amber Info & Care

We import our Baltic amber directly from Eastern Europe, to ensure each amber piece is a genuine nugget from the Baltic region. The amber is then knotted onto 100% silk. In fact ChookMook amber teething necklaces and anklets are double knotted. As a parent owned company, we here at ChookMook choose not to have plastic rubbing against our children’s skin. So all our amber teething jewellery is made with sterling silver clasps. Not plastic synthetic clasps, containing glue and commonly used in imported teething necklaces. We’ve seen these plastic clasps splinter when they break. Necklaces fasten with an easy to use lobster clasp (.925).

Necklaces are approximately 12″ in length. We find this length ensures most children won’t be able to put the necklace in their mouth while wearing it, but is still long enough to fit most children right through to their school days. Just like our necklaces, the clasp and extender chains on our anklets are all sterling silver.

For an additional fee, we can use a sterling silver or 14kt gold filled traditional pearl safety clasp, or a sterling silver magnetic clasp on request.

HOW TO CARE for your Baltic amber teething necklaces and anklets:
• When not being worn, store necklace or anklet in it’s pouch.
• If the silk thread becomes saturated allow to dry lying flat.
• To protect the integrity of the magnetic clasp (where used), open by sliding the magnets apart.

This is “real jewellery” and should be treated just like a string of pearls, with tender love and care. It should not be worn by any infant or child unsupervised, and is not intended to be gummed, mouthed or played with. Its important that anklets and necklaces are not worn as bracelets as then they are in the child's direct line of sight and more prone to being mouthed and played with. If the item has a magnetic clasp it should not be worn by, or near anyone with a pacemaker.  If tugged, pulled, caught or yanked, it is likely to break at the weakest point for safety. Our restringing fee starts at $15 for a 12" necklace.  Extra costs will be incurred if a replacement clasp and/or beads are required.
